BIOGRAPHY

Bram Schouw (The Hague, 1979) is a Dutch writer–director drawn to stories that whisper louder than they shout.

He graduates with honors from the Utrecht School of the Arts. His short films Marriage, Impasse and Sevilla travel from Rio to Berlin, Tokyo to Clermont-Ferrand, collecting awards along the way — including a Dutch Academy Award (Golden Calf) and a Vimeo Best of the Year listing.

His feature debut Broers (Brothers), written with longtime collaborator Marcel Roijaards, premieres in Angers and earns him Best New Director at the Brooklyn International Film Festival. His most recent series Childhood Dreams (with Marnie Blok) premieres at Canneseries, got nominated for both the Prix Europe, Prix de Rome as well as for two Dutch Academy Awards and wins Best Series at the New York Festivals TV & Film Awards 2024.

Outside fiction, Bram brings his eye for humanity to the world of commercials — often for brands with a social heart. His work has been honored with multiple Lions in Cannes and the Dutch ADCN Award for Best Director. He’s represented by Bonkers United (Amsterdam) and 75 (Paris).

He’s currently developing a new series with Marnie Blok based upon Gideon Samson’s bestseller Black Swan, and writing a feature about the art of letting go.

Bram loves the faces of people. Early morning swims. Arne Slot’s Liverpool. Francois Ozon’s old films. Family and Epicurus. He lives between Marseille and Amsterdam with his son Roman Gabriel (9) — who plans to become a rock guitarist, or a footballer, or both. 🤘🏾
