Impressive family saga in which we follow a family over a period of some 45 years. Their lives touch on major historical changes and events, such as the student uprisings in the 1960s and the fall of the Berlin Wall. Yet, above all, The Dream of Youth is a bittersweet family chronicle, showing that real change through stubborn family patterns is harder than it seems, and that the struggle for freedom (for example, on abortion and religion) must be continually re-enacted by new generations. The execution is rock solid across the board, with an outstanding cast, a dynamic visual approach, and a strong script by creator Marnie Blok (Ramses).
